My name is Carol Boland and I am a counsellor and psychotherapist, and also a poetry therapy practitioner with a practice in Arklow and online through Zoom.
Psychotherapy:
There are many reasons why a person
feels the need to speak to someone in confidence. They may find it difficult to
cope with day-to-day living, or are suffering anxiety or depression, or have
experienced a traumatic event such as the death of a loved one. Talking to a
non-judgemental professional can be beneficial, particularly when one feels overwhelmed or confused. As a
qualified psychotherapist, I aim to help people
clarify their feelings in order to solve problems and bring about a positive
change in their lives.
I practise a form of Talk Therapy based on Carl Rogers’
humanistic person-centred approach. While other forms of therapy are
also employed to assist in the therapeutic process, the needs of the client are paramount.
Poetry Therapy:
Poetry therapy is the use of poems for self-discovery and healing. It may involve the employment of other literary arts such as film, novels and journaling. The purpose of this form of therapy is to stimulate creative responses to promote self-awareness and so mental well-being.A poetry therapy session is distinct from a psychotherapy session as it revolves around the use of the creative arts, in particular the use of poetry. These sessions may be on a one-to-one basis or in a group, whichever suits the needs of the individual.
